A Season of Community Building
For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven: Ecclesiastes 3:1
Summertime just has a different rhythm to it. It is a more relaxed pace for many including holidays, vacations and time spent with family and friends. The summertime can also be a great time to build “community” through relationships. Don’t miss opportunities to have friends and neighbors over for a BBQ and deepen the natural relationships that God brings across your path.
Don’t forget to invite Christ!
Matthew 9:9-11 As Jesus passed on from there, he saw a man called Matthew sitting at the tax booth, and he said to him, “Follow me.” And he rose and followed him. 10 And as Jesus reclined at table in the house, behold, many tax collectors and sinners came and were reclining with Jesus and his disciples. 11 And when the Pharisees saw this, they said to his disciples, “Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?” 12 But when he heard it, he said, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. 13 Go and learn what this means, ‘I desire mercy, and not sacrifice.’ For I came not to call the righteous, but sinners.”
In Matthew 9:9-11 we see Jesus call the disciple Matthew to come and follow him. Matthew had been a tax collector (publican) and was hated by many because he financially abused people for a living. His “friends” were people just like him…people in need of a Savior. What this new disciple did can teach us a lot about bringing together lost people and a loving Savior.
Matthew threw a party and invited his lost friends and invited Jesus and the other disciples. What a great concept bring the two things you love together. Jesus the Savior came and so did lost and sinful people because of Matthew (a community builder) and food.
Don’t fill up your calendar so much this summer (or any time of year) that you don’t have time for people. Let’s build some Community within our Community this Summer!
