Sabbatical FAQs

Sabbatical FAQ // Summer 2019

What is a Sabbatical?

A sabbatical is an extended period of rest, rejuvenation, and reconnection with God and with family, and it’s considered a “best practice” in healthy churches to send pastors on sabbaticals periodically. There are studies that show sabbaticals result in greater health for the pastor and greater ministry involvement in churches that follow this practice.

Why is Pastor Jason going on Sabbatical?

There is no crisis in Jason’s life that is necessitating this sabbatical. We are instead making an intentional long-term investment into the health and vitality of Jason and his family. We want the next ten years of Jason’s life and ministry here at Harvest to be the most fruitful time of his life.

This sabbatical is meant to result in Pastor Jason’s thriving, the health of his family, and even the health and vitality of our church as a whole.

How long is Pastor Jason on Sabbatical?

From the beginning of June until the end of August 2019

What will he be doing?

He will spend his time resting, recharging, and being with his family. A good portion of the sabbatical will be spent away from the Yakima Valley to allow Pastor Jason to disconnect from the pressures of ministry.

Is he coming back?

Absolutely. Pastor Jason will not be seeking any other position or speaking at any other ministries throughout this sabbatical.

What is the plan while he is gone?

Things will look much the same at Harvest. We have a gifted team of Pastors & Elders who will continue to preach the gospel on Sundays. We also have some very exciting guest speakers coming to bless us with their ministry, and you won’t want to miss it. Church functions will continue, and our talented church staff will continue to serve us in the day to day operations of a growing, healthy church.

Can I contact Pastor Jason while he is away?

We ask that you would respect this time of rest for Pastor Jason. He will not be checking his voicemail, texts, email and taking a break from Social Media.

What if I have spiritual questions?

Spiritual leadership at Harvest has always been carried by all our leaders. Our Elders, staff, and LifeGroup leaders are here to love and serve you in your spiritual growth. If there is an urgent or critical need the Elders and staff will be happy to serve you.

What can I do to help?

  1. Pray for Pastor Jason and his family—that this time would be refreshing for them, and that Pastor Jason would experience rest in his soul and intimacy with our Heavenly Father.

  1. Continue to take steps in your own spiritual growth and love Jesus more.
